1.5 billion pallets are produced worldwide, using approximately 60
million cubic metres of timber mainly from managed forests. As a
result European forest cover is growing faster than it is harvested;
annually by an area the size of Cyprus.
Under a World
Trade Organisation agreement, member countries have the right to install
phytosanitary measures to protect human, plant and animal health.
